Remembering the Fallen

Phil Ackerman

Phil Ackerman was a member of the University of Maryland Students for a Democratic Society in the 1960’s.

He was especially active in the anti-draft movement. Phil went to Chicago for the ill fated 1968 Democratic Convention and gave talks about it to people who wanted to hear the story from an eyewitness.

Phil was shot to death by the NYC police in 1969. Accounts of why he was killed range from from a case of mistaken identity to running a red light.
