Modern UM Campus Activism

University of Maryland campus activism did not begin with the 1960's and it sure didn't end there. Look here for links to today's protests and projects.   American Civil Liberties Union- The primary group on campus concerned with protecting and preserving student rights. Black Student Union- Serves the purpose of organizing to represent the interests of the Black undergraduate students at UMCP. Citizens for Global Solutions- Envisioning a future in which nations work together to abolish war, protect ourrights and freedoms, and solve the problems facing humanity that no nation can solve alone. Coalition for Animal Rights- A student organization at the University of Maryland promoting awareness of hidden forms of animal abuse. College Park Environmental Group-Promoting environmental activism and appreciation through community service, education, and recreation. Ecological Economics Student Group- Designed to provide an informal focus for UMD students interested in Ecological Economics. Maryland Action Collective- A non-hierarchial, consensus-based collective on the University of Maryland campus. Students and Workers Unite- An organization of students and workers at the University of Maryland. Feminist Activists of Maryland-Affiliated with the Department of Women's Studies and the Feminist Majority Foundation. Maryland Food Collective- Only workers  own and operate this non-profit store. Habitat for Humanity, College Park- Homes for the people. Maryland Sustainable Agriculture Group - Educating students and the community in concepts of sustainable agriculture and to encourge sustainable agriculture practices. AFSCME Local 1072: This union for UM campus workers began during the civil rights battles of the 1960's. GALOL: This is the union for UM grad students, adjuncts and lecturers. Scholars of the world unite! The Pride Alliance: The UM LGBT student organization. Students for Justice in Palestine: The name says it all. Fair Trade Advocacy Group- A group dedicated to promoting fair trade practices as a path to increased economic parity and global justice. Peace Forum-Founded after 9/11/01 to widen the debate about peace and war issues by creating a forum within which all points of view are welcome. Brew Not Bombs- Brews beer and other booze and donates profits to activist and service groups. Critical Mass- Bicycle for social change! Entropy- A dynamic alternative campus news source, features articles, opinion pieces, essays, art, and creative expressions of a free-spirited, less-reported, unconventional, political, or cultural nature concerning issues within the University of Maryland community.
